The University of Manitoba (U of M) is a public research university located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Established in 1877, it is the first university in Western Canada and the largest in the province by both student enrollment and campus area. The university is a member of the U15 group of research-intensive universities in Canada and is affiliated with Universities Canada. Its main campus, Fort Garry, is situated in the southern part of Winnipeg.​ 

U of M offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various faculties, including Arts, Science, Engineering, Business, Education, and Health Sciences. The university is known for its strong emphasis on research, with contributions to various fields such as agriculture, health, and engineering. Notably, research at the university led to the creation of canola oil in the 1970s.​ 

The university's mascot is Billy the Bison, and its sports teams are known as the Manitoba Bisons. They compete in U Sports and the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA). The university's colors are brown and gold.
